    * Teens (age 14-17) must be registered by responsible adult

Beginner to Intermediate - the class will focus on building the structure of a head using a limited number of pastels of just a few values.  The idea is to learn to see mass before line, as a preparation for painting and to acheive the illusion of three-dimensional form.  the emphasis on value (darks and lights) avoids the complication of color for less experienced students, but our selection of pastels can render adequate color for a portrait study.

At first, outlined heads will be provided on pastel paper, on which the student will work to plce the correct values as seen on a color photograph of the model.  Some instructrion in comparative measurement, to achieve a likeness, will be included.

Paper and some pastels will be provided.

Class is limited to 8 students.

    FRANCYS FLANAGAn

"Words, strung like pearls on a page paint a picture. Music tells the soul a story. Colours and shapes on a canvas make the heart sing. Three doors into a magical and lovely place that God's gift, imagination, allows us to enter. As a child I strolled at will through these doors and lived in that place. As I "grew up", I never left it.

In 1977 God gave me another gift in the person of artist Dick Turner. Dick gave a fortunate few the tools needed in order to use paint and canvas to take others into that world of beauty and peace. A world that might catch at your imagination and cause you to ask, "What if....."

Francys has known from the time she was a small girl that she would be an artist; she just didn't know what kind. She read book after book about painters, musicians, dancers, and writers.  Then in 1977, through the chance meeting with artist Dick Turner, she realized that she too would be a painter.

Immersing herself, soul and body, in that pursuit, she studied with Dick from 1977 until 1982, taking 5 and 6 classes a week at his private art school in Houston.  She has also studied with William Reese, William Henry Earle, Carolyn Anderson, Greg Kreutz, Roberta Carter Clark, Ray Vinella, Jean Chambers, Scott Burdick and Daniel Greene.

Francys is currently represented by Artisan Collective Gallery in Dallas, Texas, and ART on the Square, Waxahachie, TX.

Please join us for an evening of art and conversation!
